Caja Vital, Madrid

This is the headquarters for the local savings bank. The building reproduces the scale of the surrounding small woods, a park of the Natura 2000 networking programme. The structural concept is based on pairs of exterior metal supports. In this case the concept changes and the pairs do not have any structural function.

Hoover Dam Science and Research Centre:
The Las Vegas and the Bolder-City area has a fast growing population with a highly land consuming way of development. The majority of people find work in the service sector and the major turnover can still be found the Casinos.
Throughout the fact that this city has such a “single use” industry and with an eye on Las Vegas future I was searching for a way to turn the potential of this highly developed infrastructure landscape into a more sustainable investment that should turn the whole area into something of what the next generations and the whole country could take benefit of.
The major target groups are those who enjoy the casinos and nightlife program that Las Vegas offers. In response to that I will provide the area with a museum/science centre in order to reach a more mixed target group with more interests in culture and science and to support a more sustainable and intercultural development.
The project is a science and research centre that includes a science centre as a museum for the latest inventions of science that bridges the fields of science research and art with a special weight on sustainable energy research. Other parts of this development are the research units containing laboratories in different scales and the necessary administration program.

The overall master plan and detailed Geometry:
The development will take place at the existing Hoover Dam site.
The existing access road will remain the same and becomes the access road for the visitors from both sides of the river. An overall system will than open up the building site in both, the natural shape of the landscape and the overall organisation of the project.
An intelligent geometry will be the overall structure for the whole project. This geometry can be described as a stick-based structure, which performs as a tree fractal system which is able to intersect two perpendicular flows. The one for people and the other one for the water. The structure will change from a vertical, regular system on both sides of the river and will change into a horizontal orientated system to response to the massive pressure of the water. The structure will perform as both, pure structure and as penstock, according to program and position.
This system reacts on several parameters and changes thickness, direction, openings and scale where the program from overall scale to detailed parts is requiring this.

From Berlin with Love

The club is located in a former power plant in Friedrichshain, behind the Berlin Ostbahnhof railway station. The building is distinguished by its enormous dimensions, which accommodate an 18 meter high dancefloor and space for 1500 guests, and also its minimalist interior design, dominated by steel and concrete. The club contains a "cavernous" main room, as well as a smaller upstairs space called the Panorama Bar, which is decorated by enormous Wolfgang Tillmans photographs and tall windows with a view of East Berlin. Only half of the building is currently in use(The second half of the building will soon be used as a concert hall)

Berghain has a strong reputation for decadence and hedonism; a New Zealand Herald article describes "people openly indulging in sexual acts" inside the club, and the basement contains a dark room specifically set aside for that purpose.
Photography is strictly forbidden. The door policy is selective, but there are no VIP entrance, VIP areas. Special guestlist is restricted to a few guests for each dj. As a special feature no mirrors or reflecting surfaces can be found anywhere in the club. Like many Berlin clubs, Berghain hosts extremely long events; a Philip Sherburne column in Pitchfork describes a Carl Craig set that began at 3:00 Sunday afternoon and continued until the club's ending time.

food for thought

"We have no budget, we do what we want and throwing money out the window brings money back in through the front door. The bottom line is I don't deal with the bottom line. The luxury in my life is I never have to think about it."

Minimalism is Eroticism

Man with a Mission

Peter Hill Beard b. 22 January 1938 in New York is a photographerartistdiarist and writer,

His interesting and varied life began in NYC although he was raised all over the US. He came from a influential american family and was thus guaranteed a life in which to pursue his interests, inheriting a colossal railroad and tobacco fortune. He later said that he hated his stiff necked up-bringing, longing for a "life without socks and underpants"

From an early age he compiled scrapbooks, which he continues to do. They are, however, far beyond mere collections of images and memoirs, becoming a strange mixture of narrative and artwork which span a whole range of media, from the written word, taxidermy... even to smears of animal blood and droppings.

He travelled extensively over africa, and his output has been documented in many publications, and he explored such themes as anthropology, poaching, ecology, and many other aspects of the life of that great continent.

On the other hand, he lived the New York social scene of his youth very intensively, being a regular at studio 54, being painted by Francis Bacon and painted on by Dali. He also made films with Capote, following the Rolling Stones, and had other projects with Jacqueline Onassis and Mick Jagger. This diversity in life style gives him a marked difference to most outstanding men, as he appeared to enjoy both the wild, natural at times harsh life of the committed traveller/explorer, as much as the glowing hedonism of the worlds great cities.

“He jumps in and out of a snake pit he keeps in his home. He cuts himself and paints with blood. He wears sandals and socks in winter. He lived in a parked car on 13th Street for six months, and moved when he found a transvestite sleeping on the roof.”

It is this full appreciation of life's variety and what we can experience that I find so seductive!
